As of January 2020, California State Assembly Bill 5 (AB5) was signed into law. It determines the difference between an employee and an independent contractor. When wanting to hire a Massage Therapist you must determine how to categorize the job. If massage is part of your regular business, massage therapists must be a W2 employee.
The only allowances for an independent contractor would be if massage isn’t a service you regularly offer and you are hiring someone for a one-time event.
